BC Sprint winner Orientate to stand at Gainesway.
Orientate, who looks certain to be voted sprint champion, will enter stud at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington for a fee of $25,000. Bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds and sired by Gainesway stallion Mt. Livermore, Orientate captured the Oct. 26 NAPA Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) to up his career earnings to $1,716,950 for Robert and Beverly Lewis.
John Messara of Arrowfield Stud in Australia has purchased a major interest in the stallion and he will stand the southern hemisphere seasons there. The Lewises have retained some breeding rights.
Four-year-old Orientate, who was produced from grade I winner Dream Team (by Cox's Ridge), also won this year's Forego (gr. I), A. G. Vanderbilt (gr. II), Aristides (gr. III), and Smile Sprint Handicap, plus the Commonwealth Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. II). As a 3-year-old, he won two stakes. His current record is 10 wins from 19 starts.
