Frankies Dream, who has finished third in two group III events, brought the top price of 200,000 guineas (approximately $326,970) Wednesday during the third session of Tattersalls' Autumn horses in training sale in England. John McCormack Bloodstock purchased the 3-year-old son of Grand Lodge from Terry Mills' Loretto Lodge Racing Stables. The colt will be sent to Saudi Arabia.
Other bidders for Frankies Dream included Gordian Troeller, who was sitting with California trainer Vladimir Cerin, and Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock's Jamie McCalmont, who was making offers on behalf of California trainer Mike Machowsky. Mills, who trained the colt, was the immediate underbidder.
Produced from the Lyphard mare Galyph, Frankie's Dream is from the great Newstead Farm family of Kittiwake, Miss Oceana, Sabin, and Larida. Racing for J. J. Devaney, Frankie's Dream has won two of 12 career starts. He finished second this year in the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial. He also was third in the Young Vic Theatre Cumberland Lodge (Eng-III), Milcars September (Eng-III), and Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes. Frankies Dream also finished 11th of 12 runners in the Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) that was captured by eventual John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner High Chaparral.
The auction continued on its record-breaking pace as 241 horses were sold, in all, on Tuesday for a gross of 4,243,1000 guineas ($6,936,832), an average of 17,606 guineas ($28,783), and a median of 11,000 guineas ($17,983). Compared to last year, the gross was up by one percent, the average was up by .6%, and the median was up by 10%. In 2001, 240 horses sold for a gross of 4,201,700 guineas, an average of 17,507 guineas, and a median of 10,000 guineas. The buy-back rate fell from 22.1% last year to 13.6% this year.
The auction's final session is Thursday.
