Millionaire Rock of Gibraltar, who won a record seven consecutive European group I events and figures to be named Europe's champion miler, will enter stud in his native Ireland at John Magnier and partners' Coolmore Stud. Campaigned by Magnier's wife, Sue, and Sir Alex Ferguson, Rock of Gibraltar came within three-quarters of a length of winning the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) in a runner-up effort.
A son of leading Coolmore stallion Danehill out of the Be My Guest mare Offshore Boom, Rock of Gibraltar started his impressive group I streak in last year's Grand Criterium Lucien Barriere as a 2 -year-old. The streak came to include victories in both the English and Irish Two Thousand Guineas, and the NetJets Prix du Moulin de Longchamp in his last start before the Breeders' Cup.
Bred by trainer Aidan O'Brien and his wife in partnership with Joe Crowley, Rock of Gibraltar concluded his career with 10 wins and two seconds from 13 starts and $1,888,048 in earnings.
