Take Charge Lady, who finished a disappointing sixth in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff Saturday at Arlington, was ill, according to trainer Ken McPeek.

"Dr. Jim Gilman scoped her and said that she has a
gutteral pouch infection," McPeek reported. "She hadn't been sick, but she's obviously getting sick. That might explain the way she ran."

Take Charge Lady, easy winner of the Spinster (gr. I) at Keeneland Oct. 6 in her last race, was the 3-1 second choice in the Distaff's field of eight.
