Mary Francis, wife of author Dick Francis, died Saturday morning at the couple's home in the Cayman Islands, the Racing Post, reports. According to the report, Francis, 76, suffered a heart attack.

Merrick Francis, one of her two sons, told the Racing Post, "Dad is of that generation who don't show their feelings, but I would think he is heartbroken. It's the end of an era. She was half of that tremendous team."

An unauthorized biography released last year claimed Mary Francis had written many of the books credited to her husband, which her son partially refuted, implying a partnership. "When interviewed, our father answered for them both, indivisible, like Siamese twins conjoined at the pencil," he told the Post.

A private funeral is expected for Wednesday in the Cayman Islands, with a memorial service in England at a later date, the paper says.
