Explicit, who won three stakes and ran second in another in a four-race span, has been retired and will enter stud at Pope McLean's Crestwood Farm near Lexington. The son of Distant View will stand for $3,000 live foal.

Explicit won the True North Breeders' Cup (gr. II), Count Fleet Sprint (gr. III), and Pelleteri Breeders' Cup Handicaps, and ran second in the Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Sprint Handicap (gr. III) in four consecutive races this year. In 2001, he captured the Ridan Stakes by 8 1/2 lengths in 1:09.05 while registering a 118 Beyer Speed Figure at Gulfstream Park, then finished a neck behind champion Kona Gold while deadheating for second in the Potrero Grande Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II). He retires with six wins from 26 starts and $603,190 in earnings and will stand for Crestwood and Marvin Malmuth. The latter raced him and bred him with his wife, Sonja.

Produced from the Sir Ivor mare Elegant Victress, Explicit is a half-brother to stakes winners Flying Victor, Sharp Victor, and Vying Victor.
