Thunder Bertie Upsets Arlington-Washington Lassie

Richard, Bertram, and Elaine Klein's Thunder Bertie closed from off the pace to win the $100,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes (gr. III) by 2 3/4 lengths Saturday at Arlington International. The win was the second career win for the Bernard Flint trainee, who completed the one-turn mile race in 1:36.91 under Jeremy Beasley. The 7-2 second choice on the morning line was sent of at nearly 6-1 and paid $13.60, $6.40, and $3.80. Caressing held well to finish second, returning $4 and $2.80. 7-5 favorite Zahwah was a neck farther back in third and was worth $2.80 to show. The winning exacta combination paid $63.40.
Gold Huntress came home fourth, followed by Scoop, Dare She Goes, Time Is Money, The Hess Express, Pionjewel, and Montana Cat.
Thunder Bertie (Thunder Gulch--Alltheway Bertie, by Alwuhush), is a 2-year-old filly bred in Kentucky by Bertram Klein.
