Tony Lovato, who has ridden with success in Texas and Louisiana, will try his hand at Santa Anita on a regular basis soon, according to his agent, Tommy Ball.

Lovato, a 32-year-old native of Albuquerque, was raised in Europe and is fluent in five languages – Italian, German, Dutch, French and English.

"I have two Dutch brothers and a sister who lives in Lucerne, Switzerland," said Lovato, who tacks 112 pounds. "I have family in California and wanted to try it again. I rode here when I had the 'bug' in 1991."

Meanwhile, Southern California regulars Brice Blanc and Luis Jauregui will be absent from the local colony for the time being. Blanc has decided to test the waters in Kentucky, while Jauregui is involved with the film, "Seabiscuit: An American Legend," until December.
