Came Home continues to prep for BC Classic.
Came Home, one of the leading contenders for the Breeders' Cup Classic, breezed five furlongs in 1:02 at Santa Anita Wednesday morning, galloping out six furlongs in 1:15 1/5.
The son of Gone West was sent out at 6:40 with jockey Mike Smith aboard. Trainer Paco Gonzalez, who said he was looking for "something around 1:01," caught him in fractions of :12 2/5, :37 1/5, and :49 2/5, with a final eighth in :12 3/5.
"I didn't want him to work fast today," Gonzalez said. "I just want to keep him happy. And he is happy; that's the main thing. Mike never asked him. He'll work again next Tuesday, a half-mile, something around :48. Then he'll ship [to Arlington Park] next Wednesday."
Coming off the track, Smith said to Gonzalez, "He worked great. Perfecto. He galloped out great, too. I really liked how strong he felt galloping out."
Came Home will be trying to win his first start outside California since capturing last year's Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga.
