On Thursday, for the second time in less than a week, the California Horse Racing Board issued a complaint against a trainer after morphine was found in a post-race test of a horse. The CHRB charged trainer Jesus Mendoza after Truesdail Laboratories reported a positive test for morphine in a urine sample taken from Golden General after the colt finished second in the sixth race at Hollywood Park on June 23. The Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory confirmed the presence of morphine in a split sample.
The stewards at Santa Anita will schedule a hearing on the complaint.
The CHRB charged trainer Robert Frankel on Sept. 23 after two horses he trains tested positive for morphine in post-race samples taken in June. (More, Morphine Charges a Deja Vu for Frankel
