Swept Overboard Has His Sprint Ticket

Trainer Craig Dollase says all systems are go for Swept Overboard going to the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) Oct. 26 at Arlington Park, following the 5-year-old's fourth-place finish as the 9-10 favorite in the Ancient Title (gr.I) Saturday at Santa Anita.

"He's fine," Dollase said of the son of the late End Sweep owned by John Reddam. "He was a little tired after the race, but I think he'll benefit greatly from it. We'll go in the Sprint, absolutely."

Swept Overboard, who won the Metropolitan Mile (gr. I) at Belmont May 27 in his last start before the Ancient Title, was fourth in the B.C. Sprint last year.

Trainer Ian Jory said before the Ancient Title that Explicit had to win the race to move on to the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Explicit finished last, beaten 5 1/2 lengths at 15-1 in the race.

But Thursday, Jory said the son of Distant North owned by Marvin Malmuth is back on the Breeders' Cup trail.

"He ran down the other day (in the Ancient Title)," Jory said. "He's going to work on Monday at Hollywood. If he works well and doesn't run down, he'll go on." Lonnie Meche would retain the mount

In other Breeders' Cup news from Santa Anita, trainer Richard Mandella will ship his Breeders' Cup hopefuls – Pleasantly Perfect (Classic), The Tin Man (Turf) and Listen Indy (Juvenile) -– to Arlington on Oct. 19.

No workouts are planned upon arrival.

"We'll just gallop them a few days and blow them out a little," the hall of fame trainer said.
