Came Home, the leading point leader for the Breeders' Cup Classic, turned in a sharp seven-furlong work in 1:25 3/5 at Santa Anita Thursday morning with jockey Mike Smith aboard. Trainer Paco Gonzalez described the work as "perfect."

Gonzalez caught the son of Gone West in fractions of :25 2/5, :37 3/5, :49 4/5, 1:02 1/5, 1:14, with a final clocking of 1:26 1/5. Following his final eighth in :12 1/5, Came Home galloped out an extra furlong in a quick :12 4/5, for a 1:39 gallop-out time.

"This was a much better gallop-out than after his last work," Smith said. "This time he wanted to do more."

Gonzalez, who was looking for 1:26, said the work was exactly what he was looking for. "We weren't looking for fast times," he said. "We just want to keep him happy. He's plenty fit."

Came Home, like War Emblem and Medaglia d'Oro, will attempt to win the Classic off a nine-week layoff. Came Home last raced in the Pacific Classic, in which he defeated older horses as well as War Emblem. His only defeat this year came in the Kentucky Derby.
