Kalookan Queen will be pointed to the Breeders' Cup Sprint at Arlington Park on Oct. 26, along with stablemate Kona Gold, according to Aase Headley, wife of Kalookan Queen's trainer, Bruce Headley.Last Saturday, Kalookan Queen became the first filly or mare to win the Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap since Track Gal in 1995. After the victory, trainer Headley said there was "no chance" she would run in the Sprint. "The owner (Louis A. Asistio) wanted to run," Aase Headley said Wednesday, explaining the reason for the change.Kalookan Queen, a 6-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Lost Code, has an 11-8-4 record from 24 starts, with earnings of $1,021,674.
Meanwhile, a decision is expected shortly on whether Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile winner Night Patrol will be pointed to the Breeders' Cup Mile. "We'll make a decision this week," trainer Nick Canani said Wednesday morning. "He loves Hollywood Park, too, so we've got some races there after this meet that we could consider. We'll play it by ear for now." The speedy 6-year-old gelded son of Storm Boot is Breeders' Cup-eligible, Canani said . . . Howie Zucker, trainer of Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap runner-up Crafty C.T., said he would run the son of Crafty Prospector in the Breeders' Cup Sprint, "but I think it's up to the (selection) committee (Crafty C.T. could fall short in graded stakes earnings, a criteria used by the selection committee). The horse is really doing well. He's sharp. I can't imagine that he's going to be any better than he's going to be in three weeks. We'd appreciate a better post (than the No. 1, which he drew in the Ancient Title). First, we've got to get through the luck of the draw with the committee, then we'll try for the luck of the draw with the post positions."Breeders' Cup Sprint candidate Disturbingthepeace worked six furlongs in 1:11.80 on Santa Anita's fast main track Wednesday morning, and it exceeded trainer Darrell Vienna's expectations. "It was an extraordinarily good work," Vienna said. "He was supposed to go in 14 (1:14); that's kind of what we had scheduled for him. It looked like he went 16 (1:16)." Vienna plans to ship Disturbingthepeace to Arlington Park on Oct. 19, "and then he'll have one work on that track."
