Evening Attire runs to victory in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
Evening Attire, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup, breezed an easy five furlongs in 1:03 at Belmont Wednesday. It was the son of Black Tie Affair's first work since his victory in the Gold Cup.
According to trainer Pat Kelly, it was only "an open gallop." Exercise rider Danny Vogt was aboard. Kelly said that Evening Attire will have a more serious work before leaving for Arlington Park. He originally was booked on a Tex Sutton flight on Oct. 16, but that flight was canceled when Bobby Frankel decided to wait a few extra days to ship his horses. Evening Attire then was booked a flight on Oct. 21, but will now van to Arlington early next week instead.
"I don't know what day yet," Kelly said. "We'll work at Belmont next Monday or Tuesday, then put him on a van the day after he works. That will allow us to give him his final work at Arlington.
"We're not going to crank down on him now. We just want to keep him happy. We'll let him relax for a few days, then give him a stiffer work next week."
Evening Attire has been improving with each race, and is coming off impressive victories in the Gold Cup and saratoga Breeders' Cup.
"We're happy with what he's done and we'll take on whoever shows up," Kelly said.
