Mike Smith hasn't been aboard Composure since she broke her maiden by four lengths at Del Mar on Sept. 7. But along with the filly's connections, he's been keeping a watchful eye on her.

Smith feels good about riding her in Sunday's $200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles.

"Actually, Dana's (exercise rider Dana Barnes) been working her, but I've been watching her work and talking to (trainer) Bob (Baffert) and she's training unbelievably," Smith said. "To me, of all the fillies, she looks like she's training most forwardly, so that's a good sign."

Composure, a $470,000 daughter of 1997 Belmont Stakes winner Touch Gold, is owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis of Newport Beach.

A small field of six is signed on for the Oak Leaf, including Claiborne Farm's Espy, who is coming off a maiden victory for trainer Richard Mandella.
