The Keeneland Foundation announced Sept. 27 it will underwrite the production costs of instructional videos aimed at educating Hispanic workers in the equine and farming workforces. The video project is being spearheaded by Operation Read, a Lexington-based non-profit organization that promotes adult literacy.
Virginia Graves, executive director of Operation Read, said the video project was prompted by the need to find a more specific way to explain work tasks to Spanish-speaking workers on local horse farms.
The two videos will be in Spanish and will be part of Operation Read's Farm Outreach Project. The project began in 1998 in response to the growing number of Hispanic population in the Central Kentucky area. The videos will be designed to help farm managers and workers to communicate and will be shot on location at Keeneland and at local horse farms later this year.
