Trainer Bobby Frankel will be well represented on opening weekend at Keeneland when he ships in the likes of Surya, Lord Flasheart, and Beat Hollow to contest Fall Stars weekend at the Central Kentucky oval.
Flaxman Holdings Surya will kick off Frankel's weekend in the $500,000 WinStar Galaxy Stakes (gr. IIT) on opening day, Oct. 4. The California-based trainer will take Saturday off before saddling Edmund Gann's Lord Flasheart in the $150,000 Sycamore Breeders' Cup and Beat Hollow in the $600,000 Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile (gr. IT) both on Sunday.
Multiple grade I winner You is Frankel's entrant in the $500,000 Overbrook Spinster Stakes (gr. I).
Frankel isn't the only high-profile trainer preparing to invade Keeneland this fall. Trainer Neil Drysdale worked Gainsborough Farm's Touch of the Blues on Monday at Woodbine for his start in the Shadwell Breeders' Cup Mile. Drysdale was pleased with Touch of the Blue's seven furlongs in an easy 1:30 4/5.
Mike Maker, assistant to trainer D. Wayne Lukas, reports that Bob and Beverly Lewis' Orientate is ready for Saturday's $250,000 Phoenix Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III) after his nifty :47 4/5 move at Churchill Downs on Sunday. Robby Albarado will be aboard the son of Mt. Livermore who brings a four-race win streak and a $1.1 million bankroll into the Phoenix.
Trainer Christophe Clement's WinStar Galaxy hopeful Voodoo Dancer was scheduled to arrive at Keeneland late Tuesday afternoon with stablemate Craigsteel, who is pointed toward the Sycamore. Voodoo Dancer last won the Palomar Handicap at Del Mar while Craigsteel captured a division of the cape Henlopen Stakes at Delaware Park.
Select Stable's Take Charge Lady will attempt to keep her flawless stakes record at Keeneland intact when she takes the gate for the Overbrook Spinster. The daughter of Dehere captured the Walmac International Alcibiades as a 2-year-old and took the Ashland this past spring. She worked an easy half-mile in :49 flat at Belmont Park on Sunday for trainer Kenny McPeek.
