Barham Takes Post With Race Track Industry Program

Steve Barham, executive director of the Oregon Racing Commission for the past 17 years, has been named associate coordinator of the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program.

Barham joins director F. Douglas Reed and sssociate coordinator Wendy Davis on the faculty. The program is headquartered in Tucson.

"The time I have spent as the executive director of the Oregon Racing Commission has been great, but it is time to move on," Barham said. " I am really looking forward to joining the RTIP team."

During his tenure in Oregon, Barham researched and wrote the statutes and administrative rules that provide the regulatory framework for multi-jurisdictional simulcasting and wagering hubs in Oregon.

Barham was presented the 1997 Len Foote Award, sponsored by the Association of Racing Commissioners International, which honors the outstanding executive director in the organization. He also has won two Winners Circle awards and one Pacesetter Award presented by North American Pari-Mutuel Regulators Association in recognition for outstanding efforts within NAPRA.
