Life Happened, the dam of grade II winner Vyjack carrying a foal from the last crop of Harlan's Holiday, was purchased by Solis/Litt for $750,000 as the top-priced offering early during the Jan. 6 first session of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale.
Consigned by Select Sales, agent, as Hip 36, the unraced 13-year-old daughter of Stravinsky is also the dam of grade III winner Tepin and graded stakes-placed Prime Cut.
Jason Litt of Solis Bloodstock signed the ticket on the mare purchased on behalf of client LNJ Foxwoods.
"That was exciting," said Litt. "We bought it for a client that's building up a broodmare band. She seemed like a logical choice, with pretty good runners: Vyjack, obviously, and the filly running right now (Tepin) is pretty impressive. Beautiful mare, in foal to the last crop of Harlan's Holiday, so it's pretty exciting.
"Honestly, I thought the price was really good value. We really thought that she would bring a bit more, and, honestly, I was just here in case."
Earlier in the bitterly cold and windy day in Lexington where the temperature was 3 degrees when the sale began at 10 a.m. (EST), millionaire grade I winner Unbridled Belle (Hip 25) was hammered down for $400,000. Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales as a racing or broodmare prospect, the 11-year-old daughter of Broken Vow was listed as purchased by Haruya Yoshida.
