Handpainted injured herself while finishing second in this past Saturday's Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine and will miss the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).
"We dodged a bullet," attending veterinarian Don Duncan said in a release. "We're very fortunate the laceration did not damage her tendon. I expect a full recovery and return to racing."
Handpainted, by A.P. Indy, had won her first three starts--including the Ontario Debutante Stakes--by a combined 11 lengths. She is bred and raced by John and Glen Sikura and trained by Josie Carroll.
She will be shipped to the Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington, with plans to return her to training in six to eight weeks.
