Hansen, the 2011 champion juvenile male and Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner, was represented by his first reported foal when a colt was born at Jason and Ashley Schappert's Leading Edge Farm near Ocala Jan. 28.
"He's real leggy and has a nice head, and we're very excited about him moving forward," said Jason Schappert of the newborn colt, who is the first offspring out of the Tiznow mare Havelsee.
Hansen (Tapit —Stormy Sunday, by Sir Cat), was undefeated as a juvenile in 2011 when he took the BC Juvenile at Churchill Downs, plus the Bluegrass Cat Kentucky Cup Juvenile at Turfway Park. During his 3-year-old season, he added victories in the Gotham Stakes and Iowa Derby (both gr. III). Raced by breeder Kendall Hansen and Skychai Racing, he retired with a career record of 5-2-0 from nine starts, for earnings of $1,810,805.
Hansen stood his first season in 2013 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., after which he was sold to South Korea. He will stand the 2014 season in that country for a private fee.
