The Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy has named Chris Wong its first full-time chaplain devoted to ministering to Spanish-speaking workers at Churchill Downs.
Wong, a native of Miami, Fla., has been hired as associate chaplain at the racetrack and will serve alongside Churchill's longtime chaplain, Ken Boehm.
Wong, whose parents are originally from Peru and whose great-grandfather hails from China, is working on his masters of divinity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has a degree in business administration. He also brings experience in Hispanic ministry to his new position.
Pam Sears, the president of KRTC, said the addition of Wong at Churchill Downs will provide needed assistance to Boehm.
Wong said he is "overjoyed" to be serving at Churchill Downs. The new position "will present a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Christ to those who know Him and those who may not," he said in a release.
