Fasig-Tipton Kentucky will catalogue 774 horses for its October yearling sale. The total is a record and represents a 53.3% increase over last year's total of 505. The auction will be conducted Oct. 21 and 22 at the Newtown Paddocks in Lexington."In the past week (at the Keeneland September yearling sale) and at certain regional sales, we have seen a market for this type of horse," said Boyd Browning, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Fasig-Tipton. "Both buyers and consignors seem to have readjusted their sights, and we are hopeful for a strong marketplace in October."During last year's auction, 322 horses were sold for a gross of $4,142,300, an average price of $12,864, and a median price of $6,500. Compared to 2000, the number sold, gross, and average fell by 35.9%, 38.8%, and 4.6%, respectively. The median rose by 4.8%. The buy-back rate increased from 21.7% last year to 23.5% this year.
