Jockey Nick Santagata, injured during the post parade of the first race on Friday night when he fell from his mount Primal Passion, hopes to be back in the saddle and riding again in just one month.
"It was bad timing," said Santagata, the all-time leading rider in the history of the Meadowlands. "Really a fluke accident. I landed on my wrist. I took my hands off the mane for just a second and the horse threw me. The reins were dangling a bit and just as soon as I went to tighten them, boom."
Santagata suffered a broken left wrist in the incident. It was certainly bad timing for the jockey, who is just 28 wins shy of winning 1,000 races at the Big M alone.
"I definitely plan on coming back this meet," the rider said. "If I don't get to 1,000 this meet, I'll do it next year."
