Comic Strip Colt Tops Keeneland's Tuesday Session

A colt from the first crop of Comic Strip brought a top price of $250,000 during Tuesday's session of Keeneland's September Yearling Sale.

Jimmy L. Gladwell III bought the bay colt by Comic Strip out of Chapel of Dreams, a graded stakes winner of $643,912. During his racing career, Comic Strip won 10 races, including the Louisiana Derby, and earned $965,474.

Lane's End, as agent, sold the colt, who is a half-brother to stakes-placed Seeking the Dream.

M & M Racing bought a bay colt by Souvenir Copy out of Hurricane Alert for $110,000, second high price of Tuesday's session. Lane's End sold the half-brother to stakes winner Golden Hurricane.

Keeneland sold 291 horses during Tuesday's session for $7,878,400, an average of $27,074 and a median of $20,000. At the corresponding session a year ago, 267 horses brought $6,990,200, an average of $26,181 and a median of $18,000.
Through eight days of the 12-day auction, 2,001 horses have been sold for $196,679,500, an average of $98,291 and a median of $50,000. At this point in the sale last year, 1,877 horses had been sold for $241,117,700, an average of $128,459 and a median of $50,000.

The sale continues through Saturday.
