The New Jersey Assembly Tourism and Gaming Committee will devote its entire agenda Sept. 19 to horsemen's issues, including legislation that would allow slot machines at state racetracks.
"This could be our only opportunity this year for a slot-machine measure to be considered by lawmakers," said Barbara DeMarco-Reiche, lobbyist for the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association.
Also scheduled to be heard is a bill sponsored by Sen. Martha Bark that would allow horsemen to sit on the New Jersey Racing Commission. Currently, commissioners are prohibited from owning Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds.
The committee hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the statehouse annex in Trenton.
