Trip Pounces to Repeat Win in Turfway Breeders' Cup

Claiborne Farm's Trip became the first back-to-back winner of the $200,000 Turfway Breeders' Cup (gr. III) for fillies and mares, winning by about five lengths as the favorite Saturday at 1 1/16 mile at Turfway Park.

The 5-year-old mare by Lord of War sat off the pace by Red n'Gold, and with jockey Pat Day, took command at the head of the stretch. The final time was 1:43.01.

The Shug McGaughey trainee won for the 11th time in 27 career starts. It was her third victory of the year in seven starts. The $120,000 first prize pushed her career earnings to more than $880,000.

Favored Trip pad $5, $2.80 and $2.40. Mystic Lady returned $3.40 and $2.80. Red n'Gold paid $6.40. The exacta was $17.80.
