Record Purchase Atlantic Ocean Starting to Pay Off

Making her first stakes appearance, The Thoroughbred Corporation's Atlantic Ocean posted an easy 3-length win in the $100,000 Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies at Turfway Park Saturday.

Atlantic Ocean, a record $1.9 million purchase at the Barretts' 2-year-old sale in March, won her second straight race at a mile. She broker her maiden at the distance at Del Mar Aug. 29.

The winning time was 1:40.39.

By Stormy Atlantic, Atlantic Ocean is trained by Bob Baffert and was ridden by Mike Smith.

Ruby's Reception was second in the eight-horse field. Jodys Deelite was third.

Atlantic Ocean paid $9.80, $4.60 and $3. Ruby's Reception returned $3 and $2.40. Jodys Deelite paid $3.40.
