Speightstown Colt Works Quick Quarter at OBS

A colt by Speightstown   posted the fastest quarter mile breeze April 18, stopping the timer in :20 3/5 during the fourth and final session of the under tack preview for next week's Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s spring sale.
The spring sale kicks off its four-day run on April 21 at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The sale will be streamed live at bloodhorse.com/OBS.
Hip No. 1187, consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent for Stonestreet Stables is a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Conveyance   out of the Holy Bull mare Emptythetill. Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet, he failed to meet his reserve on a final bid of $190,000 at last year's Keeneland September yearling sale.
Five youngsters worked a quarter in :20 4/5, including Hip No. 1077, a colt from the first crop of Midshipman   named Slate Mills. Produced from the unraced Giant's Causeway   mare Colorama, the chestnut colt is consigned by Joe Pickerrell and Courtney Roberts' Pick View. 
Pickerrell is the co-breeder of the Florida-bred colt along with Joanne Crow.
"He's a straightforward colt," Pickerrell said. "He's been athletic all year, very precocious. A lot of the
Midshipmans have worked eighths at the preview, so we felt we needed to do something different to showcase his ability. He really stepped up today. He has exceeded our expectations all along."
Roberts added of the colt, "He loves his job. He never gets tired."
Relative newcomers in the public auction arena, Pickerrell and Roberts established Pick View, which focuses on breaking, training, and sales, in Ocala in 2011. The outfit has seven horses in the spring sale and five juveniles entered in Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale in Maryland next month.
"We're very hands on in everything we do," said Pickerrell, "so we try to keep the numbers manageable."
Others working in :20 4/5 were Hip No. 924, a colt by Indian Charlie out of the Distorted Humor   mare Agatha, an unraced half sister to Japanese champion Hishi Akebona and European group I wnner Agnes World, consigned by de Meric Sales, agent; Hip No. 1031, a colt by Sky Mesa   produced from the Distorted Humor   mare Callie's Joy, a half sister to stakes winner Rileys Monarch from the family  of grade I winner Will's Way, offered by Tom McCrocklin, agent; Hip No 1105, a Ready's Image   colt out of Crystal Got Even, by Stephen Got Even, a half sister to graded stakes winner Reba's Gold consigned by A. R. Equine, agent; and Hip No. 1181, a Stormy Atlantic   colt out of the unraced Pulpit mare Ellie Boo, a full sister to stakes-placed Pulpit's Treasure, consigned by All in Sales (Tony Bowling), agent.
Recording the fastest eight of a mile breeze of the day and of all four under tack shows was Hip No. 1207, a colt by Wildcat Heir who was clocked in :09 3/5. Consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent, the Kentucky-bred colt is out of the Bertrando mare Exquisite Beauty, a five-time winner and a half sister to grade I winner Idiot Proof
Two horses breezed an eighth of a mile in :09 4/5.
Hip No. 928, consigned by Dean's List, is a New York-bred filly by Freud   out of All of Me, by Unbridled's Song. The filly is a half sister to three winners and hails from the family of stakes winners Bold and Gorgeous and Just Gorgeous.
Hip No. 1008, is a colt by Henny Hughes out of the winning Brahms mare Brahms Allegro consigned by Whitman Sales, agent. The bay colt is from the family of graded stakes winners Stellar Jayne, Starrer, and Star Billing.
