(From track report)I
t was Friday the 13th - bad luck with a Capital B for apprentice jockey Michael Thomas at Pimlico.

His horse refused to run after the field broke from the starting gate in today's third race at historic Pimlico Race Course.

The errant horse, 62-1 shot The Star of Bohrer, came out of the gate with the others but bucked several times and sent Thomas up and out of the saddle before the rider surrendered and jumped off. Thomas held onto the colt's reins so the 2-year-old maiden wouldn't run off. Neither was hurt.

Thomas, 29, a 10 pound apprentice rider and a winner of one race in his career, had yet to make a dent in the rider standings during the current meeting. He is a a native of Baltimore and a prizefighter.

The race was not without further incident. Through the stretch, Sea Isle City under jockey Larry Reynolds shut off Godsend and jockey Harry Vega. After a stewards inquiry and an objection by Vega, Sea Isle City was deemed guilty of interference and disqualified to last.
