National HBPA Hires Firm to Study Simulcasting

The National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association has hired a consultant to help it better understand on-shore and off-shore simulcasting markets.

Stevenson & Associates will assist the National HBPA and its affiliates in analyzing signal dissemination sites and sub-dissemination sites so horsemen know where signals are being sent. The company will work strictly in an information-gathering capacity, officials said.

"I've read quotes that while annual U.S. handle on Thoroughbred racing is around $15 billion, the rest of the racing world wagers around $85 billion," National HBPA president John Roark said. "If we hope to tap into that market someday--and I believe we will--horsemen need to be involved and informed."

Stevenson & Associates was founded in 1984 by David Stevenson, who held management positions with the New York Racing Association and Ontario Jockey Club.
