A.P. Indy, who is having another good year at stud with eight stakes winners and the earners of $3.8 million, will stand in 2003 for the same $300,000 amount that he stood for in 2002, according to figures released by William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm. Only Storm Cat will have a higher stud fee than A.P. Indy for next year (among stallions whose fees have been announced). Another Lane's End heavyweight, Kingmambo, again will stand for $200,000. Kingmambo is closing in on the $3-million mark by progeny earnings this year. Veteran stallion Gulch, who ranks second on this year's progeny earnings list, will remain at $50,000.
Several Lane's End stallions have experienced drops in fees. Among those with five-figure drops are Belong to Me ($40,000 to $20,000), Charismatic ($35,000 to $20,000), Dixieland Band ($75,000 to $60,000), Lemon Drop Kid ($75,000 to $50,000), Pleasant Tap ($25,000 to $15,000), and Smart Strike ($30,000 to $20,000). Smart Strike also is closing in on $3 million in progeny earnings this year.
