Frankel Foal Sells with Dam for $1,952,437

The first foal by Frankel to be offered at public auction was sold along with his dam, in foal to the undefeated champion, for £1.15 million ($1,952,437 in United States funds) June 16 at the inaugural Goffs London, England, sale at The Orangery, Kensington Palace.
The 3-month-old colt, bred by Qatar Bloodstock and born March 18, was bought by Coolmore's M. V. Magnier on behalf of a partnership.
The foal's dam, Crystal Gaze, by Rainbow Quest, is expecting her second foal by Frankel in 2015. The foal and his dam were consigned together by David Redvers' Tweenhills Stud as agent. Crystal Gaze, who was unraced and is a half sister to three stakes winners, is the dam four winners, including multiple group winner Spirit Quartz, who was group I-placed in England.
"He has been bought for a racing partnership, and there are four different people in it," Magnier, son of Coolmore principal John Magnier, told England's Press Association. "It's a nice, strong colt and the lads (Coolmore and partners) really liked it."
The sale was conducted in association with Qatari private investment company QIPCO, whose director is Sheikh Fahad Al Thani of Qatar Racing. Redvers manages racing and bloodstock for Qatar Racing.
Frankel, a son of Coolmore's leading European sire Galileo, was retired to Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket after winning all 14 career starts. He is rated as the world's best racehorse ever on the flat.
While the Frankel foal grabbed the headlines, the sale's highest price was £1.3 million ($2,207,570) for Cappella Sansevero, a 2-year-old son of current leading English and Irish freshman sire Showcasing who sold to Sheikh Fahad.
The sale-topping colt is out of Madam President, by Royal Applause, and was consigned by Glenburnie Stables. He is undefeated in three career starts that include a 3 1/4-length win in the Marble Hill Stakes May 25 at the Curragh for trainer Ger Lyons. He is entered for the Coventry Stakes (Eng-II) June 17 at Royal Ascot.
