It appears that the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships will have to either change its date or its location in 2005.
The change is necessary because NBC Sports must show the Notre Dame home football game against Tennessee on Nov. 5, 2005, the Louisville Courier-Journal
reported in today's editions.
The championship races in 2005 are slated to be run at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., which has hosted the event more times -- five -- than any other track. Churchill was originally scheduled for 2004, but switched with Lone Star Park in Texas because Churchill will be undergoing a renovation.
The five times Churchill has hosted the Breeders' Cup it was held the first Saturday in November.
Moving the races to Oct. 29 is not possible at this time because hotel rooms will be booked for the national FFA convention. The other possible date is Nov. 12.
''It's definitely a logistical problem,'' Breeders' Cup president D.G. Van Clief Jr. told the Courier-Journal
