Keeneland Cumulative Average Up 26.8%

With two days remaining in Keeneland's record-breaking September yearling sale, the cumulative average price of $98,149 for the 2,930 horses that have grossed $287,576,200 represents a 26.8% increase over the $77,390 average for last year's sale when 3,011 horses grossed $233,020,800.

On Thursday, a half-sister to stakes winners Tuzia and Tanja was purchased by Wakefield Farm for $170,000 as the top-priced yearling sold during the session. Lane's End, acting as agent for Brookside Farm, sold the filly sired by Allen's Prospect and produced from the stakes-winning Magesterial mare Fleet Road.

Keeneland reported 246 horses sold Thursday, the 11th day of the 13-day auction, for a total of $3,772,200 and an average price of $15,334. During the corresponding session one year ago, 210 horses averaged $9,593 from a gross of $2,014,500.

The sale in Lexington, Ky. continues at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) Friday and concludes Saturday.
