Magic Weisner, the Preakness and Haskell Invititational runner-up, continues to show improvement from treatments he is receiving at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center. The 3-year-old is being treated with anti-inflammatory medications for the signs of encephalitis.

Dr. Raymond Sweeney, who is treating the colt, said Saturday morning that Magic Weisner is "improving gradually" as his appetite is improving and he "looks brighter."

Nancy Alberts bred, owns, and trains Magic Weisner. Magic Weisner was foaled in Maryland and first made his mark on racing in that state. Starting last year the son of Ameri Valay strung together four stakes victories at Laurel Park, three in restricted races, before moving up to finish second in the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico. Magic Weisner's second-place finish to War Emblem in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) was followed by a win in the grade II Ohio Derby. Magic Weisner has earnings of $888,110. He was scheduled to run in Monday's Pennsylvania Derby (gr. III) before he became ill.
