Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) winner Tiznow and Love That Red, winner of the Pat O'Brien Handicap (gr. II), each posted bullet works at Santa Anita Thursday morning.
Tiznow, a full brother of Budroyale, went seven furlongs in 1:25 4/5, handily, the quickest of four works at the distance. Tiznow finished second against older horses in the 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic (gr. I) and is being prepared for the 1 1/4-mile Super Derby (gr. I) for sophomores. Others expected for the $500,000 Super Derby include Commendable, Mass Market, Kiss A Native, and Chris's Bad Boy.
Bob Baffert trainee Love That Red went five furlongs in :58 3/5, handily. The work was easily the fastest of 31 five-furlong works over the fast strip at Santa Anita Thursday. Kona Gold, the lone horse to finish ahead of Love That Red in the Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) in July, breezed five furlongs in 1:01 1/5. The second-place finisher in last year's Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) is preparing for a start in the Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II). In the 1999 Ancient Title, Kona Gold finished second to Lexicon.
Also at Santa Anita, Tout Charmant went four furlongs in :49 1/5. Notable Career, a 3/4-sister of General Challenge, went seven furlongs in 1:26 4/5.
