Ronald W. McDonald, whose homebred filly Degenerate Gal earned $936,393, died Aug. 29 at his home after a two-year battle with brain cancer. A builder and land developer, McDonald owned Hidden Springs Farm near Versailles, Ky., with his wife, Carolyn.
Degenerate Gal won 22 of 60 starts and finished in the top three in 19 stakes. Her richest payday, $300,000, came when she won the 1991 Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. II). She also captured two other graded stakes. Degenerate Gal's offspring include graded stakes winner Positive Gal.
McDonald's survivors include his wife, and a son and daughter.
