The Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana has cataloged 233 horses for its select yearling sale, a 34% rise from last year's catalog, the company reported.
The sale is set Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. CDT in Opelousas.
Last year, there were 174 horses consigned for the auction company's inaugural select yearling sale.
The 2013 auction saw 132 horses sell for $1,714,300, an average of $12,987 and a buy-back rate of 18%. The top-priced yearling was an Eskendereya colt for $140,000.
"The 34% increase in catalog size shows that consignors were pleased with the results last year, and we think buyers will be impressed with the quality of this year's catalog," said Foster Bridewell, sales director for Equine Sales Co. "We have progeny of more than 100 stallions in the sale with a good mix of top Kentucky stallions and a long list of leading Louisiana stallions."
