Jockey John McKee tied the all-time record of apprentice wins by a jockey in one season at River Downs on Aug. 31.
The record of 109 wins was set by Hall of Famer and Triple Crown winner Steve Cauthen in 1976. McKee, a 21-year-old Ohio native, won two races on the card . He tied the record in the sixth race on the 9-year-old gelding Mitigate, who is owned and trained by Jack Howard.
Only the Sept. 1-2 programs remain in the River Downs season. McKee was scheduled to ride six horses Sept. 1, and seven horses Sept. 2.
