A potentially large field is building for Monday's $125,000 Solana Beach Handicap for California-bred fillies and mares, 3 years old and up, going one mile on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
The prospective field is headlined by Elaine's Angel, who has been assigned highweight of 122, which will include jockey Alex Solis for trainer Jerry Dutton. A victory by the 4-year-old daughter of T.U. Slew will push her well beyond the $300,000 earnings mark.
Mimi's Café, on the brink of hitting the $400,000 career earnings level, will be heading into the field, according to trainer Donald Warren, who will saddle, also, Bold Roberta, to be ridden by Matt Garcia. Patrick Valenzuela gets the call on Mimi's Café.
Another major player for the race is the Mel Stute-trained Warren's Whistle, who will be returning to action a week after finishing second to Kalookan Queen in last Sunday's Rancho Bernardo Handicap. She'll carry 118 pounds, with no rider assigned, and will be trying to enhance her already heavy earnings ledger of $527,558.
Others committed to the race are Castling, with Kent Desormeaux; Continental Lu, Eddie Delahoussaye; Covincing, David Flores; Smokin' Charlotte, Victor Espinoza, and Super High, Garrett Gomez.
Listed as probable are Lil Sister Stich, who would be ridden by Laffit Pincay, Jr., and Top Of Our Game, with Mike Smith. If Top Of Our Game runs she will be coupled with Super High in a Harris Farms entry trained by Carla Gaines.
