A small jet crashed just outside the grounds of Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Ky., slamming into Versailles Road early Friday afternoon.

One passenger on the plane, an air ambulance attempting to land in Lexington after a flight from Florida, was killed and four others injured, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. The newspaper reported the fatality may have been the female patient being transported on the plane.

The newspaper's Web site reported the patient and her husband, who was also on the flight, apparently own homes in Lexington and in Florida.

Two bystanders also were taken to hospitals after being overcome by smoke while trying to assist the plane's passengers. Parts of the plane also struck a coal truck that was westbound on Versailles Road; its driver was taken to the hospital after he complained of neck pain.

There was no live racing or sales activity scheduled at Keeneland on the day, although simulcast wagering was being offered. The jet came to rest on the edge of Keeneland's property.
