Kachamandi Pushes Possible Del Mar 'Cap Field to 11

Supplemented nominee Kachamandi, a Chilean-bred winner of last Friday's Harry Brubaker Stakes, has raised the possible field for Sunday's $250,000 Del Mar Handicap (gr. IIT) to 11 for the 1 3/8-mile run on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course. Only 10 will be allowed to run.

Kachamandi has been supplemented to the field by trainer Barry Abrams for a fee of $2,500. "We'll enter and then see how it shapes up," the trainer said the morning of Aug. 29. "Corey Nakatani will ride." Nakatani rode Abrams' trainee in the Brubaker.

Since highweights are preferred for the stakes event, the addition of Kachamandi, who will asked to carry 115 pounds, drops Homeland, trained by Ben Cecil and to be ridden by Brice Blanc, into the odd-horse-out spot as the lowest weighted horse in the field at 112.

The others committed to the race are high weighted Continental Red, who will carry 118, including Alex Solis; Blue Steller, with Patrick Valenzuela; The Tin Man, with Mike Smith; Dance Dreamer, Kent Desormeaux; Kim Loves Bucky, Laffit Pincay Jr.; Deploy Venture, Victor Espinoza; Adminniestrator, Eddie Delahoussaye; Mister Kybelee, David Flores; and Caveolin, Garrett Gomez.
