Bosque Redondo in Good Condition After Surgery

Bosque Redondo was reported in good condition Wednesday morning by Dr. Wayne McIlraith following surgery Tuesday for broken sesamoids and a condylar fracture of the right front cannon bone suffered following the finish of Sunday's Pacific Classic (gr. I).

Dr. McIlraith said the surgery on Bosque Redondo, whose racing career is over, began at 5 p.m. and was completed by 7.

"The surgery went as well as it could," the noted veterinarian said this morning after his return flight to Colorado. "I looked at him this morning and he was doing very well," he said. "He had no temperature, he ate well and he was putting weight on the leg. We have the leg in a cast and it will remain on for two to three weeks."

Dr. McIlraith said the surgery included insertion of a bone plate and 16 screws.

The 5-year-old son of Mane Minister is the stablemate of Pacific Classic winner Came Home. Bosque Reddondo, who finished fourth after vying for the lead through most of the 1 1/4-mile race, is owned by Trudy McCaffery and John Toffan.
