Stud Fees Set For Chester House, Richter Scale
Juddmonte Farms has announced that the stud fee for Chester House, the son of Mr. Prospector who won the Arlington Million Stakes (gr. IT), will be $25,000 when he enters stud at the farm's North American division near Lexington in 2001.Chester House's dam, Toussaud (by El Gran Senor), was a grade I winner in Southern California for Juddmonte, and his 4-year-old half-sister, Honest Lady, is a grade I winner. Chester House, who placed in three graded stakes this year, won six of 21 starts and earned $1,944,545. The Khalid Abdullah homebred was retired after it was determined he was diagnosed with a hairline fracture of the scapula.Besides the Arlington Million, Chester House won the 1999 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Eng-III). In his first North American start, he finished fourth -- beaten by 3 1/4 lengths -- in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I).Meanwhile, Richter Scale, who enters stud next year at Nathan Fox's Wafare Farm near Midway, Ky., will stand for $15,000. The 6-year-old son of Habitony -- Devine Pet, by Bel Bolide, who retires with 12 wins in 25 starts and earnings of $1,139,958. Richter Scale apparently hurt himself in the Forego Handicap (gr. II) on Aug. 30.Fox and his wife, Shelley, purchased a 25% interest in Richter Scale before the 1998 Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs. His original owners, Richard and Nancy Kaster, kept 75% ownership. First trained by Pat Byrne, then Bill Mott, Richter Scale's most recent trainer was Mary Jo Lohmeier, for whom he won the De Francis Dash (gr. I) on July 15.
