Irish stallion Sadler's Wells, who ranks as England/Ireland's all-time leader by number of pattern wins and by number of stakes winners, recently reached two more historic milestones. The first came on May 11, when his son, Daliapour, won the Ormonde Stakes (Eng-III) at Chester. Daliapour's victory was the 150th European pattern triumph for a Sadler's Wells offspring. The next closest rival, Sadler's Wells' close relative Nureyev, has some 40 fewer pattern wins. Pattern races, also known as group races, were inaugurated in 1971.

A dozen days after the Ormonde, Sadler's Wells was represented by his 150th career stakes winner when his son, Roscius, captured the listed Compass UK Leisure Predominate Stakes at Goodwood. Stakes winner No. 151 came along on May 30, when Loco captured the listed Dr Poth-Silbernes Pferd in Germany. Among active stallions in Europe and North America, only 23-year-old Central Kentucky stallion Danzig, with 152 added-money winners, has more.

Nineteen-year-old Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer--Fairy Bridge, by Bold Reason) stands at John Magnier and partners' Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
