Hastings Park in British Columbia, Canada, has ended its Friday night experiment. The track has canceled the last five of this season's eight scheduled Friday race cards.

"This decision was made with the long-term view of providing our customers, both here at Hastings and through distribution channels, a quality product every time we race," said Phil Heard, Hastings Entertainment president.

Originally, the Friday cards were added to provide a lead-in to weekend programs, but the races have had shorter fields than the Saturday and Sunday cards. Typically Fridays had between seven and 10 races scheduled, as compared with as many as 13 races on weekends and holidays.

Hastings will continue its meet through Nov. 3, with Monday racing Sept. 2.
