So Accurate, a colt from the first crop of Wagon Limit, brought $55,000 Wednesday to top the second open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's August yearling sale. Bred by Mr. and Mrs. Leverett S. Miller in Florida and consigned by their T-Square Stud, as agent, So Accurate was purchased by trainer Mark Casse.
"I'm not sure what I'll do with him, but I'll probably resell him (as a 2-year-old in training)," Casse said. "He's a very attractive horse out of a young mare and by a young sire, so if he were to perform well, the sky's the limit."
So Accurate was produced from the 7-year-old winning Darn That Alarm mare So Ritzy, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Race Artist (gr. III), So Dashing, and So Charming. Race Artist is the dam of stakes winner Cherokee Girl, who finished third in the Forward Gal Stakes (gr. III).
OBS reported that 207 horses were sold for a gross of $1,771,300, an average price of $8,557, and a median price of $5,500. Compared to the same session a year ago, the number sold increased by 20.3%, but the gross rose by less than one percent. The average and median fell by 16.6% and 8.3%, respectively. According to OBS, the buy-back rate increased from 27.5% last year to 28.6% this year. In 2001's second open session, the 172 horses sold grossed $1,764,400 and averaged $10,258. The median was $6,000.
The sale concludes on Thursday with another open session that begins at 11 a.m. EDT. The auction, which is being conducted in Central Florida, began on Monday with a select session and the first phase of a major reduction by Louisiana oilman John Franks, who is a multiple Eclipse Award winner.
