A bobblehead in the likeness of Secretariat has been released.
Finally, bobblehead-doll mania reaches to equines. A likeness of the great Secretariat is now available in bobblehead form to commemorate next year's 30th anniversary of Big Red's sweep through the Triple Crown.
The Secretariat figurine carries highweight of nearly two pounds, and his stride stretches 11 inches from nose to tail. He is clad in the familiar blue and white checks of Meadow Stable, and wears the familiar 1A he carried to victory in the Kentucky Derby.
The Secretariat bobblehead is authorized by his owner, Penny Chenery, who will sign a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity for each doll purchased. The $73 price tag reflects the year of Secretariat's Triple Crown, and also allows a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Secretariat Bronze Fund, Mrs. Chenery's ongoing effort to create a life-size statue of the champion at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington. The statue is scheduled to be unveiled in conjunction with 2003 Triple Crown festivities.
A limited edition totaling just 1,000 Secretariat bobbleheads were produced. They are available exclusively at Secretariat.com
