John Amerman, the former chief executive officer of Mattel Toys whose Thoroughbreds include Hollywood Futurity winner Siphonic, and bloodstock agent Gayle Van Leer will be among the speakers at TOC's free seminar for prospective Thoroughbred owners. Racing fans and anyone interested in someday owning a racehorse can get an insider's look during the workshop at Del Mar Racetrack on August 24 from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m.Longtime owner Frank Sinatra will join Amerman and Van Leer in discussing such topics as how to acquire a racehorse, what keeping a racehorse costs, and how to locate and choose a trainer. Attendees will then visit the Del Mar backstretch, with groups heading to the barns of such trainers as Christopher Paasch, Dean Greenman and Mike Machowsky.TOC's "Horse Course for New Owners" will be held in the Veranda Cafe in the second level of the Del Mar Clubhouse.
